Vehicles take two

Hi everyone its how you all doing?  Im loving the spring weather it really makes me feel happy. Another thing that is making happy is my sewing machine. Yes i’m obsessed at the moment, but thats what I love about crafts, you never get bored as there are so many spokes to the wheel.

As you may recall, the theme for this month on the Country View Crafts blog  is vehicles, and I have another holiday vehicle make for you and this time it’s a small, 5×7 bag. This was so simple to make and turned out really well.

This is a mix of embroidery and appliqué and is fully lined.

I cut all my fabric to the sizes required and then loaded the design on to my machine  and  started  stitching  it  out.

It starts with the zip placement then each piece is laid in order. At first it can seem quite daunting but the more I do I’m starting to understand the structure, and have even started playing around with my own designs ( more of that another time). What you can see in the image above is the part of the design currently being stitched, how long the whole thing should take for the actual stitching and how long this step will take. This of course varies across machines and there are lots of human steps too, so depending on how fast you work will affect the overall time.

You can see below the placement stitches for the appliqué of the doors and windows and that the main body has been been stitched in place

Next you can see all the appliqué has been secured in place and I’ll  be adding a satin stitch  around  the appliqué to finish it.

I was meant to use black felt for the wheel but didn’t have any so used black faux leather which has a sparkle to it, and actually looks really nice.

Once its all stitched, you take it off the hoop and cut around the stitched edge leaving about 1/4 inch accept for the actual opening where I leave a little more, as I need some extra to turn inwards and stitch up once it’s all turned through the right way.

Once I had completed that I opened the zip and turned the whole thing through. Let’s take another look.

Thats it until next time

hugs Debs xxx
